CURSED BY THE GODS: Sisyphus

CURSED BY THE GODS: Sisyphus

$800.00

Sisyphus was king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). A greedy ruthless man who often tricked and betrayed the gods and one time was the final blow. His cheating ways and tricks finally catch up with this king and the punishment is for eternity.

He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity. Through the classical influence on modern culture, tasks that are both laborious and futile are therefore described as Sisyphean.  -Wikipedia Remind you of anybody?

I love the perfect balance this sculpture has, the boulder going down the hill and the mountain and rocks to climb only to find it at the bottom again. Some jobs I had were like that. Didn’t get to try the self-aggrandizing part, just the tedious and laborious structure of working.

Zinc sheet metal, steel wire.
