Unique Designs

All jewelry and kinetic sculptures are handcrafted, one-of-a-kind designs. Sketching has always set the projects into motion.

Most of my jewelry is anodized aluminum with niobium earwires, Nb #41 and posts are titanium, Ti #22 on the Periodic Table of Elements, which are also hypoallergenic. They do not contain any nickel alloys.

Kinetic sculptures are a wonderful outlet for larger work. I love working on my art studies by choosing the Ginkgo leaf as a motif to work out balance and design ideas for sculpture. You can find two of my sculptures at Santa Rosa City Hall Council Chambers, SATOYAMA 1 & 2.

Collaboration

When working with a client, we collaborate on the theme, size, color profile. With two designs, this offers me a chance to play in the same sculptural way and my clients have a few choices to decide what feels right for their space.

Materials and Process

Using anodized aluminum and mixed materials, earrings are cut, formed, stamped and shaped into playful designs. Cold form work is what I do, using saws and files without fire to produce my jewelry. The kinetic sculptures are constructed from aluminum sheet metal with steel wire and acrylic paint.

Working my office (in good weather), is on our redwood deck, in a small town, in Northern California. This is where you'll find me most days in Petaluma, California.

“No other creative field is as closed to those who are not white and male as is the visual arts. After I decided to be an artist, the first thing that I had to believe was that I, a black woman, could penetrate the art scene, and that, further, I could do so without sacrificing one iota of my blackness or my femaleness or my humanity.” - Faith Ringgold

“I am intrigued with combining the remnant of memories, fragments of relics and ordinary objects, with the components of technology. It's a way of delving into the past and reaching into the future simultaneously.” -Betye Saar

"If you're any kind of artist, you make a miraculous journey, and you come back and make some statements in shapes and colors of where you were." – Romare Bearden

“About my method of work: first it’s state of mind- Elation (joy).”  - Alexander Calder

“I love my work. It is a reflection of all I see, hear, believe and I get to make this art in the materials and colors of my choosing. It is freedom unbound.” - Denise Ward

On my last visit to France, the visit to Monet’s home was a highlight. It was a magical day. To stand in a painting is to live my artist’ life.

“Art is not a luxury as many people think – it is a necessity.  It documents history – it helps educate people and stores knowledge for generations to come.” – Dr. Samella Lewis
