Valentines Day, The Love Holiday and Celebrating Black History Month

2022. This year is special, simply because I am still here and the start of the year was life changing (for the better). With this long rehab on the knee replacement, my life suddenly slowed way down. When you’re healing, it takes more energy than you realize. I’m amazed at what little bits I can achieve everyday, slow progress is progress. January brought another Kennedy Center jewelry collection. This time celebrating the art and dance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater 60th Anniversary performing at the Kennedy. I was inspired by a replayed Alvin Ailey American Masters documentary available through the California African American Museum in Los Angeles. With Zoom presentations and podcasts, I am able to enjoy the world’s culture and lucky to have found this doc the week before the project was announced. I have seen this dance group many times over the years and there are a few favorites that I had a chance to play in designing jewelry from the joy of Ailey ballets.

This was the project that gave me back my creative life after surgery. The Alvin Ailey celebration shows run February 1-6 and I am so happy and proud to be a part of the celebration.

Makes this February as special for me as last year with the projects for Petaluma Blacks for Community Development virtual presentations. On February 26, PBCD will hold the annual Black History Month celebration at Petaluma County Library. Details here: Black History Month with PBCD 2022
