Octoberland, a Month, a Season, My Favorite Time of the Year

We had a little rain yesterday and it was a welcome and a surprise. In Northern California, rain is still a surprise after so many years without. I love this time of year, cool nights and warm days.

I had the opportunity to spend a little time with my favorite mayor, Mayor Natalie Rogers of Santa Rosa. Here we are with two sculptures in City Hall Santa Rosa, my 2 part series of SATOYAMA, which means “to live in harmony with the Natural World.

Mayor Natalie Rogers and me, under my two sculptures, SATOYAMA 1 AND 2.

This series was my homage to Sonoma County, where we live between mountains, near rivers and the Pacific Ocean. Satoyama is a movement in Japan to encourage their people to live in harmony with nature, moving toward living in a more natural and sustainable way, using the resources available where you are.

It was such a pleasure to create these works. Thank you Mayor Rogers for the opportunity.

The fall/winter fairs are rolling in and I will publish a list of locations soon, just tying up the ends now. Lots of new work is happening and some special events around next year are surfacing soon.

Just adding new work to the website as I write and will finish the fall/winter run of earrings very soon. It’s a lot to juggle: life, back to my ushering duties at SF Jazz with last nights’ show, Eliane Elias, a favorite Brazilian pianist/singer, who is up for a Grammy or two this year! Excellent show and this weekend, Michell Ndegecello and her band. How I missed my “home in the City”.

Love to you all, be well, be kind and be strong. Denise
